Stand

Spend a moment with a tree

stand, feeling the earth
under your feet,
lay a hand on the tree
touch the spirit-born textures
look up into the mothering branches
see life upon life
nurtured in its arms
its trunk reaching up always to the divine,
roots anchoring in kinship.

stand, awash
in that immense love.
pull away from the fear
always trying to get a better hold
the fear that looks at you askance
the fear that diminishes
everyone and everything.
stand in that boundless love
where no fear can breathe.

stand, thrumming in possibility,
know the tree
as your parent, your child, your lover, you.
stand to speak your words, your song, your creation
into being and fullness,
to paint right over the fear in broad, bright strokes,
finally frolicking atop it
with defiant joy,
safe in those primal arms.
