Autumn Moment
Just pausing to notice

Heron stands
motionless
at water’s edge.
Stream flows
languid in the chill.
Leaves drift down
through cold air,
catch on water,
sail away.
Geese fly overhead,
call out.
Woman shivers,
pulls coat close.
Heron lifts
with spreading wings.
She smiles.
